MARSET

Today, we paid a visit to the MARSET showroom to look at their expanded indoor and outdoor fixtures.

Overall, the fixtures come in playful colors and unique finishes. One thing to remember is that not all the products are offered in 2700K, although they offered more in this CCT than other decorative manufacturers we’ve dealt with.

They have a couple of new outdoor fixtures, such as the JAIMA pendant, and floor mounted fixture with a flexible fabric shade. We also liked the SANTORINI, a pendant-mounted fixture inspired by the lantern shape with a glass lens and playful finishes. It looks like a modern-looking vapor-proof fixture.

Another interesting fixture that we looked at was the BOHEMIA. We liked the opaque outer finished blown glass which was somehow translucent and provided a nice light effect.

JUNIPER

Today, we went to JUNIPER's new showroom in Soho to look at their updated fixtures and the new magnetic track system, MULTIVERSE.

Below are some photos of their well-known THIN SYSTEM in horizontal and vertical installation, METROPOLIS tubular pendant, AXIS, and the modular FLUTES.

The THIN SYSTEM is not completely node-free. When dimmed down 50%, we start to see the diodes, and they were completely visible once dimmed below 30%. As a solution, we suggested making it slightly larger in diameter or using a more populated LED strip.

Update: 2700K is now a standard CCT.

The new magnetic track system, MULTIVERSE.

A low-voltage power distribution system with Pivot elements and connector “nodes”. It is a very low profile ribbon track with a dual circuit, paintable on-site to match the mounting surface.

It uses a magnetic system with a capacity of connecting up to 16 miniature spot modules.

**When the module is flipped 180 degrees, it will be on the second circuit. However, there is no indication (marking) on the module to determine which circuit it is.

The advantage of this system is that it could run 150FT from the power supply without voltage drop.

The 90 degree connector nodes (corner, inside & outside 90s) are currently in a curved shape. We suggested doing it with a sharp, straight edge, plus offering custom angles in addition to 90 degree.

The spotlight head comes in 500 lm and 800 lm Outputs with 360 degree rotation and 90 degree tilt. It comes with field-replaceable beam spread optics, snoot, & hex louver. The frosted lens is not a standard option but provided if required.

The mono-point version comes with a j-box cover plate.

LLI - strip light

WALD received a kit of LLI linear tape light and extrusions. The kit contained the base line of tape (LLIL) with various extrusions, CCT, and output. The offerings of CCT, output, extrusions, dimming protocol, and tunable white/static color are similar to qtran and luminii. Cut sheets are easy to navigate. First select an extrusion, then refer to chart below with compatible tape lights and lensing option, and their imaging quality (uniform, semi-uniform, imaging). Dimension diagram only shows bare fixture without any bracket. Dimension of bracket is on following page.  

  • Hand bendable aluminum extrusion in up/down direction – FLEX extrusion 

  • (3) different lines of static white tape. LLI base (L), High efficacy (HE), and tight pitch (TP) 

  • Color changing with static white CCT 

  • Tunable white with ranges of CCT 

  • DN price range for static white with extrusion is $29/FT + $80/0-10v driver

  • DN price range for color changing with extrusion $34/FT + $90 DMX decoder + $125 DMX controller + $60/nondim driver

COLORBEAM LIGHTING

Today, we looked at COLORBEAM Lighting unique control program and new RGBW+Tunable white fixture:

  • Low voltage fully controllable light fixtures

  • All the fixtures are available in a range of 1800 CCT to 4000 CCT

  • NOW RGBW + fully tunable White

  • The concept is being able to control scenes easily using a DMX controller 

  • The gateway allows their system to communicate with other none DMX systems have to assign the addressable drivers

  • Gateway is universal, with 120 channels

  • They have pre-programmed drivers for other systems like Lutron 

  • No Data cable, just DC power cable and 1 channel for everything  - Example: 2 channels for warm dim : 1 for cool White, 1 for the warm white 

  • For RGBW, there would be 4 channels 

  • Smooth dimming to 1% 

  • They created their own IP addressed - web app requires for programming

Lutron System: 

  • Homeworks QS with keypads in different spaces.

  • Their processor seats on their system and incorporated without a hiccup, as if we are controlling and setting Lutron 

  • They use integrated scene-setting for control. The lighting designer just has to configure the scenes, set the tunes and color, and luck them.

Crestron needs an additional component to translate. 

  •  Homeowners would not be able to change the setting without calling the integrator. Log in to the color beam configurator app and set the settings and levels.

Distance from the fixtures to drivers: With TYP. Cat6 distance is around 200ft to 300ft.

Their advantage is category cable instead of AC wire which reduce the cost, and they are among the few that offer full tunable and color changing  

BIANCA 16W: Availale in 1800K-4000K / 2700K-6500K ranges - 1400 lm, 1550 lm, & 1600 lm - 20° and 40° -

We looked at 4000K to 1800k at it felt too orangish!

  • Price-wise, around 70% cheaper than Ketra.

  • They sell through AV and Distributer. 

  • Trimless only available for plaster mounting

  • They have gibels 

  • No wall-washer

LUCENT LIGHTING

We looked at some of the new updates to the LUCENT Lighting fixtures

2" Plus Fixture: IC rated fixed downlight, offered with adjustable tray to access the terminal box (driver)

Mini wall-washer: 1.65” aperture - 1:1 spacing - Nice wash from the edge of the ceiling

absolutely favorite such beautiful from all the way from the edge of the ceiling to the floor and further

Micro Focus Accent Light: Great accent light specifically for millwork but remembering the thicker the millwork, less adjustability - Tunable Mini looked very bright and powerful.

  • CREE LED chips for the tunable white

  • Xicato is the standard LED chip

  • LUMENEDIX LED chip is used for RGBW

InGround 2.36" circular: walk over recessed uplight with 8°, 15°, 25°, 30°, & 10°x45° beams, fixed 7-degree tilt - Available accessories are elliptical beam effect, square beam, & honeycomb louver.

Monopoint option comes in recessed and surface mount - 94 CRI, 1800lm, four beams from 17 to 50 degrees - Accept x2 accessories.

Black with Copper finishes in the trim - we liked the copper finish.

14mm option the smallest - soon in the USA

Beautiful recessed wall fixture - We looked at InWall 50 Square with backbox - Great sharp distribution and clear cut-off line - If requested, they have a film to soften the distribution

Available in different beams and sizes. All are outdoor-rated except the bronze finish option.

LUMINII

Today we looked at Luminii's 2021 update to their linear fixtures. They’ve made changes to fixtures and updated their cut-sheet as below:

  • All Static White boards are node free & offered in 1” increments.

  • Now LED tape goes all the way to the edge of the channel.

  • 1" to 4" increments offered for extrusions.

  • Ordering codes change: SO, HO, VHO now are all LL72 LED tape but different outputs.

  • They merged the high efficacy (HE xx) & high quality (L72) in the Static White cut-sheet.

  • All the RGB, RGBW, tunable, and white are now combined in the Dynamic Color cut-sheet.

  • Dedicated 19K to 27K warm dim: Tighter chip, one channel dimming, slight dotting - Dimmed with PSD driver.

  • LL48 and LL64 improved to a higher output but still under 10W

  • Under development: LL68 tunable white with two-channel dimmed with a vintage dim driver.

  • RGBW is now upgraded to have richer color, only available with 30K + RGB

  • FT for asymmetric come with 4w and 7w options. We liked the asymmetric distribution.


SENSO Lighting by LUMINII:

We also reviewed the new Senso line that Luminii has brought on.

  • Titanium body to kick more light out - Special TRI optic, constant voltage - A lot of accessories - Work with any of the current drivers - IC rated as standard.

  • Comes in 3,5,12 inches, lockable, 35 degree tilt - Available in 250, 600, 1260 lm outputs.

  • Distributions: 15,30,55, elliptical

  • Under development: wall-wash optic - Mud-in, trimless wood

  • Coming up as combined louver optic- not a stackable accessory

LIGHTFAIR 2021

A brief look at LightFair 2021, held at the Javits Center in NYC. Overall, there weren’t many participants and we’d already seen many of them in virtual presentations over the year.

The one worth highlighting was the ORIGAMX. It is a specification-grade architectural lighting system that was developed by BLACK TANK.
ORIGAMX office is located in Atlanta - Mainly custom made - based on request. Their mono-point features are Hybrid Driver Technology (PWM/Current Control), RGBA LED (2000K-10,000K), and White Light or Color Mixing in one Light.

We also enjoyed seeing the PURE EDGE LIGHTING Saber Suspension in person.

Joker Light

Joker Light was our first in office product presentation of 2021! 

Joker lighting North American lighting manufacturer. European parent line is Arkos lighting. Shipping port of entry in Miami, FL. Product shipped directly from overseas; not stocked in USA. 

Nice architectural light fixtures with clean form factors.  

Track, recessed, suspended, and surface mount. No wall washers.

N8 LIGHTING

Today we looked at the new updates to the N8 LIGHTING downlights, including the 800 Series NEW tunable white option.

The adders for warm-dim and tunable are just $20 and $80. We also reviewed the smooth dimming curve in warm dim and standard white with N8’s DIM1 standard driver.

The mono-point now comes with four (4) stem lengths and round or square shapes, installed with a 4” Jbox with an integrated driver. A new remote driver option comes with a 1” canopy. (NOT AVAILABLE AS TRIMLESS BUT it’s very thin, just 1/8”. ) Available narrow spots are: A true 10 degree beam (not in WD), 15 degree (available with WD), NOT AVAILABLE in 2700k BUT this CCT can be achieved with colored lens accessories.

All the downlights have Cree LED chip except the mono-points.


LUCIFER Lighting

Today we looked at the new and upgraded products from Lucifer Lighting:

Fraxtion 3: NEW - 3” aperture round and square trimless wood downlight; installed in a thrilling up to 2.125" thickness (UPDATE: doubled the acceptable thickness).

  • Available with shallow housing, improved aiming focus (no tools necessary) - 40-degree tilt.

  • Very clean trimless wood bevel available in matt black and shiny bronze - Double wiper system to hold the trim in place! Very easy to remove

  • NEW - More integral driver options: 0-10V to 1% & Lutron Ecosystem to 0.1%.

  • NEW CCTs: Static 2200K, WD: 2700K to 1800K, Tunable White

  • NEW: 10-degree optic is available across the board (not available in WD and 2200K, comes with a smaller dedicated LED, therefore it has lower lumen package- it is field exchangeable for larger beam spread- however, we can’t go down from larger optics to 10 degree.

  • 10-degree use LUMINUS LED and the rest beam spreads use CITIZEN LED Chip.

CY4 Cylinder: NEW - 4.9" aperture, max 4500lm, 15 degrees up to 60 degrees beam options, adjustable and lockable in place, interchangeable optic. Wet rated except in up/down model. Available with surface conduit (CMJB), Cylinder & Squilinder

LANDSCAPE LIGHTING

Today we went over updated and new products with LANDSCAPE LIGHTING:

TYPOLOGY Ring Light: Dark sky-rated pole light fixture with a ring shape illuminated component. The flexible LED light ( Q-tran) is clamped into fixture housing with aluminum segmented arcs. Housing features a spun aluminum gloss white powder coat reflector. Available in 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K. +90 CRI. The driver is located on the top near the ring.

TYPOLOGY Path Light: A 41” tall bollard with a mix of concrete and aluminum; available with a single LED cartridge for a Type III distribution (265lm), or two back-to-back LED cartridges for a Type V distribution (525lm). Available in 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K. +80CRI

TYPOLOGY Stick Light: A pole light fixture that could be used more as a landscape element for its look. Available in 10', 13', and 16' height with 2’, 3’, and 4’ illuminated slots; around 400lm/ft, and configurable with low and high output options.

This fixture’s body is made of a custom extruded column that is 3.5" in diameter and the illuminated part has three internal linear LED strips (Q-tran LED) with raised frosted acrylic lens.

This fixture uses the hinge feature for easy access to the light sources for maintenance. The driver is on top near the light source.



ALDABRA Virtual Factory Visit

We got a nice virtual tour from the ALDABRA factory and an overview of their exterior line.

Most of their Exterior rated IP68 fixtures are suitable for use underwater.

The VERTEBRA Line is their flexible wall grazer fixture with aluminum and stainless steel body, available with different optics available - narrow beam (10°) - medium beam (30°) - wide beam (45°) - elliptical optics (54°x12°) - Great for facades, columns, curved surfaces.

Their submergible flexible fixtures are EK1 (1inch) for swimming pools and EK2 - stainless steel. UL human touch certified. The flexible fixture is up to 14ft long and suitable for the fountain! but not a swimming pool (human touch).

Everything is made to order! nothing is in stock. The general lead time is 4 /8 weeks depends on the volume.

They use different LED suppliers such as Cree, Luxeon, and Citizen.

Fixtures are available in different standard CCTs, RGB, and RGBW.

Factory Tour:

They can provide a test result for any batch on demand

Fixtures have 7 layers of pour-in resin in clear and opal.

It takes 2 days to complete one batch

They light on every single fixture before poor the layer

Use vacuum technology to take all the air bubbles out

Larger profile fixtures have 7 to 8 layer of resin

The smaller profiles have just 4 layers.

For the flexible linear they use a flexible LED module.

Resin is used to avoid any water penetration - Even the conventional wall grazer is filled with resin

All the products are UL listed

Frosted top diffusers, with metal mesh or colored resin, are available as an option.

The stainless steel version of their fixture is certified for the pool (human touch) IP 68.


LODES Lighting

Today, we looked at LODES Lighting from Italy.

They are specialized in high-end decorative, architectural, and custom-made fixtures. They are represented by JB Lighting Collection here in the US.

  • All their LED chips are manufactured in japan

  • LASER surface mounted sconce is a 10x10cm cube shape with 1800lm!

  • They have collaborated with DIESEL for some of their new collections such as Fork, Pipe, Glass drop, Flask; all with retrofit bulb E26

  • NEW Collections: PUZZLE Square and twist and PUZZLE round

  • BEETLE is really nice looking sconce suitable for hospitality projects,

  • EASY PEASY is a fun table lamp with top nob dimming.

  • In pendants, we looked at the JEFFERSON, SKY-FALL (nice finishes like rose gold, brass,..), RANDO, RAIN (very nice with a beautiful matt finish)

  • The TUBE NANO DUO is installed in New York Amtrak station

  • NEW: CINA GU10, PLUG-IN new micro canopy: power 6 fixtures on one canopy/driver

KELVIX LIGHTING

  • PAVEX In-ground fixture: Linear, Square, and Round -walkable fixture; modifiable in 1inch increment.

  • miter corner is possible, for seamless curves and shapes. Concrete mounting is available but requires a lot of leg work.

  • ZOOM fixture: No diode, nor seam or gap., max run length is 16ft, magnet mounted,

  • LUCKY 13: Approx.13 degree grazer fixture, flush to channel with 3 mounting options with one channel: 45 degrees (right or left and straight). could be installed as close as 1inch from the wall - For the wall-wash effect, the white lens could be used to widen the beam to 60 degrees.

  • * NOTE: All the listed “Direct View” fixtures are 100% node-free.

  • Performance Series: 1.5 times of the diode pitch to the channel height give the node-free solution.

RADIANT LIGHTING

  • ETL, UL, and UR approved from the UK to enter the US market.

  • Candle Collection: Pendant fixture with removable bottom lens accept other accessories; It also comes in an individual and triple version and as a chandelier. 5 meters of cable, spider canopy. Not wet listed, the head is adjustable.

Skybell Collection: catenary system: Skybell beam spread is 30 or 40 degrees, CCT:30K& 40K, remote power is an option.

Day-O-Lite

  • Cameo series: Lensed offer fixture available in 1’X1’ and 2’X2’. Dropped lens series: grid, flanged, trimless( to be confirmed)

  • Sky blade (architectural troffer): Edge-lit semi-transparent lens. Great for commercial, educational, and healthcare applications. SKBL may be recessed in grid and plaster ceilings, and may also be surface mounted.

  • Compass 24: Premier line of decorative ringed with 2 3/4″ aperture. Starting from 2ft up to 20ft standard diameter. The pendant mount version comes with Direct and Direct/Indirect distributions.

  • ARC: custom curve, 54 diameters.

  • New Update: Acoustic to profile product. 20 diff colors, fire-rated. 3 different depths, the custom height of up to 4ft is possible.

  • ATHENA: 1” wide edge lite recessed/surface mounted product could be engraved (one side) for logos and wayfinding. Available in lengths to 8′ and in variable depths; ATHL-MLB may be specified in static white, or RGB/W for intriguing color effects.

  • The whole series of perimeter products: 3 or 4 inches above the ceiling with adjustable housing (5,6 inches) with adjustable led tray. Every 4ft has 4 diodes that require 2ft clearance above the fixture to the ceiling.

DADO LIGHTING

  • dead side for vertical line - compound miter, a mix of drywall and millwork

  • Master DMX Driver: To do factory set or set in the field to match the desired color

  • NEW: fine line 58: flanged and flangeless. (mixed flanges are an option)

  • NEW: TIKTOK: Allow the fixture to rotate around the T-bar (30% cheaper than a standard product) 45 degree

  • In Wood: 1.75, 3inch,... width and will work with Armstrong ceiling

  • NEW: Exterior version of hard-line

  • WARM DIM: their solution: possible for 2.5" and wider

  • Eldo light shape driver (Dali protocol) - DMX and 0-10V required for programming - They have a new driver from ERG (0-10V)

  • Now they sourced aboard that they could do it in 1.5". Nichia - slimmer should be deeper.



iLIGHT by LUMINII

We looked at the updated iLIGHT linear fixtures great for landscape, commercial, and hospitality projects.

PLEXINEON White & Color Luminaires:

Rigid and flexible neon fixture; 2-4 W/ft deliver 50-90lm/ft. Available in lengths ranging from a fraction of a foot to 8 feet, Plexineon White 1X and Plexineon White 2X are submersible (IP68).

The flexible model’s tightest bend is 2.5” in diameter.

HYPNOTICA (RGB) Color Changing Series:

Rigid RGB linear fixture, controllable in 6” increments, with an aluminum housing; available in straight lengths up to 8FT and 90 degree mitered corners.

Compatible with any DMX 512 controller or any RDM (Remote Device Management) controller.

HANDRAIL Lighting System:

high quality and well priced (comparing to competitors) handrail lighting fixture 211 to 253 lm/ft. Available for installation in standard and glass handrails; controllable with 0-10V dimmer.

Available in four beam angles: Clear lens: Asymmetric 60 degree, Symmetric 65 and 110 degree - Frosted Lens: 120 degree.
